Flowing Futures: The Mazari Journey to Bring Clean Water to Bali’s Highlands

Bali is known for its mesmerizing landscapes, rich culture, and high-ROI investment opportunities. But alongside the island's beauty is a pressing issue: the lack of clean drinking water access in more remote local communities. In 2024, we took action by sponsoring a trip to Balik Bukit, a remote village nestled behind the serene Lake Batur, that will bring clean water access to families.
The Water Struggle in Balik Bukit
Families in Balik Bukit have relied on rainwater for generations. However, during the dry season, the water they depend on becomes contaminated. In these challenging conditions, some families resort to drinking from contaminated sources or boiling rainwater, exposing their health to significant risks. According to Indonesia's Ministry of Health, diarrhea is the first leading cause of death in children under five years of age, which accounted for 10.7% of fatalities in 2019.
Recognizing this urgent need, we committed ourselves to not only provide quick fixes but to introduce solutions that would lead to long-term improvements in community health and resource conservation in this island we call home.
Bringing Safe Water Through Education and Resources
In collaboration with Terra Water and volunteers from the Bali Youth Parliament for Water, Mazari launched a community event aimed at delivering safe drinking water to Balik Bukit.
At the heart of this initiative was the distribution of 100 innovative water filters crafted from locally sourced clay—an age-old material traditionally used in ceramics across cultures. These filters purify collected water, transforming it into safe, drinkable water for local families.
To foster lasting change, we also conducted a WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) training, equipping families with the knowledge to use and maintain their filters effectively. By combining tradition with innovation, this initiative supports a sustainable future, rooted in community empowerment.
